Gas BBQ Burners Advice

Everyone loves the smell of lighter fluid igniting charcoal, and what man doesn’t love the thrill of getting that fire started and running at just the right temperature.

But let’s face it guys, charcoal bbq’s have gone the way of your dad’s old push lawnmower and it’s time to enter the major leagues with a new gas bbq burner.

Choosing a gas bbq burner isn’t as easy as it seems. You can make your choice based on price, looks, size, brand, assembly, or available accessories and spare parts, so take some time and do the research.

The best time to buy a gas bbq is not right before the summer bbq season! The right time is when the large box stores have too much stock on hand, right after Labor Day. When they think the last bbq has been sold, it is time for you to make your purchase.

Start by comparing prices online, read the ads in the Sunday newspaper, and take a day travelling around town, comparing “apples with apples” at the different gas bbq stores. You are making an investment in your family, one that will provide not just sustenance, but fun and friendship for years to come. Take your time and choose wisely.

Whether you are looking for a 2 burner gas bbq, or one with 3 or more burners, looks and size may be a concern for you. Some backyards simply don’t have room for a large 4 burner gas bbq, while a family who bbq’s for friends and family may want the extra grill space a 3 or 4 burner gas bbq allows. It’s a great convenience to have a burner for beef, one for chicken, one for sausages, and one kept clean for those vegetarians!

I’m sure you can name a half dozen gas bbq manufacturers off the top of your heard, but there are many more. Drop by your local hardware store, but don’t forget about patio stores, and large cooking stores. You may even use “bbq research” as an excuse to visit your favorite bbq restaurant and ask the head chef what they prefer. They’re the experts! They may not be working on that beautiful stainless steel 4 burner gas bbq you were looking at down at the Home Depot, but they can certainly provide advice and head you in the right direction.

Because your gas bbq will be spending an awful lot of time sitting outside in the rain, the snow, the sun, the heat, and the cold, making sure you have a sturdy product is important. It is also vital that spare parts are readily available for the brand you choose. Many smaller brands may require you to order products directly from their corporate office, at a hefty price, and a long delay. By choosing a more well-known brand of gas bbq burner, you may find that spare parts are available locally and at a cheaper price.

And, do not forget about assembly! The proper (and timely) assembly of a gas bbq burner may well be the more important factor in your decision of which model to purchase. Many cheaper models are boxed overseas with inferior directions. If you can buy your gas bbq burner from a store that will assemble the product for you, even better. Remember, though, don’t buy your bbq on the day you actually intend on using it! Most bbq’s take more than a few minutes to assemble.

Taking the time to prepare a spreadsheet of each model, its price, features, size, power, and overall pro’s and con’s is great idea. This will help you to feel confident when you make your final purchasing decision.
